LibraryA dynamic environment to inspire, engage and extend our students’ love of literature and learning.

Ashgrove State School Library is a place where every student visits for a weekly lesson and to borrow from our general collection.  The collection (in excess of 15,000 resources) provides the school community with access to high quality books, DVDs, posters, computer software as well as extensive Scientific and Mathematical equipment.

Opening hours

The Library is open school hours throughout the term.

Staff

Teacher/Librarian: Kerrie Stewart

Library Aide: Carmen Nauer

Events

The Library hosts numerous events throughout the year, including author visits, Poetry Slams, Book Week activities, Education Week celebrations, Under 8s week and Library Lovers Day.

Borrowing limits for year levels

LibraryBooks are borrowed for a 2 week period.  Students are welcome to return their books earlier and borrow another book if they wish.

  • Prep: 1 book
  • Year 1: 1 book
  • Year 2: 2 books
  • Year 3: 2 books
  • Year 4: 2 books
  • Year 5: 2 books
  • Year 6: 2 books

In addition Year 6 may borrow up to 2 books from Senior Fiction provided they have returned a signed consent form from their parents.

A wonderful resource for parents who are looking for book suggestions is to head to the Premier’s Reading Challenge (QLD) Booklist.  Compiled by teacher-librarians, the lists offer a wide variety of books and also gives a short blurb on each.  We find this list useful when we are looking to engage or extend readers.
